The Marine Corps Flag has a rich history. One of the first Marine Corps Flags was made in 1876 and was an American flag with "U.S. Marine Corps" stitched into the center. In 1914, a blue flag featuring the Marine Corps emblem and the motto "Semper Fidelis" was introduced. In 1925 scarlet and gold were designated as the the colors, but the flag utilizing those colors wasn't officially adopted until 1939.
