Established in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, Texas A&M was once open only to young men, all of whom served in the Corps of Cadets. While that changed more than 50 years ago, many of the university's most outstanding traditions grew out of that military background. Today, they are the foundation and the background of the Aggie core values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service. School colors: maroon and white.
